Why the Work Mattered

Purpose and Operating Need

Capital work was only one part of the role; the source adds the operating-support layer: emergency troubleshooting, PM oversight, regulatory support, training, plant modifications, and maintenance accountability.

Engineering Approach

Engineering Approach

Support scope: emergency response, equipment failure diagnosis, maintenance oversight, PM/SOP compliance, floor-level utility troubleshooting, process inefficiency resolution, food-safety/environmental compliance, non-CapEx plant modifications, and operator/maintenance training.

Outcome & Engineering Context

Outcome and Context

Engineering scope and design basis

Strengthened day-to-day reliability, reduced avoidable downtime, improved maintenance accountability, and supported production continuity.

Supported emergency response, equipment failure diagnosis, maintenance oversight, PM/SOP compliance, floor-level utility troubleshooting, process inefficiency resolution, food-safety/environmental compliance, non-CapEx plant modifications, and operator/maintenance training.

Improved plant operating reliability, measured by recurring support across troubleshooting, maintenance, production, compliance, plant modifications, and training, by functioning as a technical bridge between engineering, maintenance, operations, and production.

Emergency response, PM/SOP compliance, production support, regulatory support, plant modification support, training, and knowledge transfer.

Roles & contributions
  • Project Ownership

    Full lifecycle project ownership

    Engineering Work and Coordination

Diagnosed plant equipment and utility issues, developed repair/controls-migration plans, supported PM/SOP and training needs, and coordinated operations, maintenance, IT and vendor follow-up.

Owned the full project lifecycle: capital planning and prioritization, need definition, feasibility and scope development, engineering and AFE justification, procurement and vendor coordination, construction sequencing and field oversight, commissioning, turnover, and post-startup support. Connected operating requirements with technical scope, funding decisions, execution readiness, and the needs of operations and maintenance.

  • Project Team

    Project Team Contribution

    Team Contribution

Plant maintenance/operations and IT were coordinated for repair, operating support, computer setup and control-platform transition.

  • Controls Software Supplier

    Supplier Participation

    Vendor Contribution

Controls software supplier technical support assisted the log investigation and offered a separate forensic-recovery service.

  • Controls renewal planning

Reviewed an untestable automatic transfer switch and recommended service by a qualified technician, preferably the manufacturer. Developed an acetator-controls renewal plan using parallel legacy operator interface and operator interface operation, operator training, SLC 500-to-compact PLC hardware and workstream migration, and backplane analog I/O in place of external conversion. The plan retained suitable low-voltage cabinets and high-voltage equipment; legacy software compatibility problems informed the migration sequence.

  • Flood remediation and alcohol-pump scoping

Reviewed flooding after a buried pipe failure beneath alcohol containment damaged explosion-proof pumps, motors, conduit and wiring. Existing 55–70 GPM pumps were throttled to about 2.9 GPM and short-cycled, prompting appropriately sized micro-pump, wiring and conduit replacement planning. Developed four-pump/stainless-plenum and acetator-feed interface questions using and examples; coordinated hazardous-area junction boundaries, existing port connections, deteriorated supports, transfer-pump scope, insurance quotations and sequencing with PLC renewal. Rerouted underground piping work was delayed by rain and trench collapse.

  • Operations-computer support

Coordinated remote and planned onsite resolution of tank-measurement and acetator backup-computer setup problems, with three open IT service requests preventing completion. The follow-up linked engineering support to the plant equipment and computer interfaces.

  • Historical process-data recovery

Investigated missing or corrupt acetator trends following an outage, preserved older log files while new logs were used and spent about six hours with controls software supplier technical support. The software vendor offered a time-and-materials forensic assessment at 150 USD per hour to estimate recovery work after receiving the files.
