Engineering scope and design basis

Improved trial readiness, supplier evaluation quality, and installation readiness for wine clarification.

Needed the utility base before the centrifuge decision could be evaluated fairly, because any comparable centrifuge required sufficient power, water, air, CIP, waste, and feed connections.

Led electrical prep for Brew 250 centrifuge, including 125A 480V panel installation, transformer sizing, product / CIP /waste / feedwater/ air hose fabrication, CIP chemical tank, water and air filter gauges, 20 GPH chemical metering pump, and future 316L hard-piping plan.

Improved centrifuge installation readiness through the 125A 480V panel and transformer-sizing work, and by defining and coordinating product, CIP, waste, feedwater, air and chemical-metering interfaces before final supplier selection.

Roles & contributions
  • Project Ownership

    Full lifecycle project ownership

Owned the full project lifecycle: capital planning and prioritization, need definition, feasibility and scope development, engineering and AFE justification, procurement and vendor coordination, construction sequencing and field oversight, commissioning, turnover, and post-startup support. Connected operating requirements with technical scope, funding decisions, execution readiness, and the needs of operations and maintenance.

  • Plant Personnel

    Project coordination

    Project coordination

The plant was assigned hose/hardware and PVC-manifold costs and assembly, or the cost of vendor assembly; engineering would supply the equipment and interface BOM.

  • Electrical Contractor and Centrifuge Supplier

    Project coordination

    Project coordination

The electrical scope assigned phased-power terminations and materials to the electrical contractor; supplier equipment and startup interfaces were included in the staged trial plan.

  • Temporary integration design

Defined a centrifuge temporary-connection BOM with 150 ft of 2 in ID process/CIP hose, 20 ft of 1 in freshwater hose, 60 ft of 5/8 in freshwater hose and 25 ft of compressed-air hose. The listed sanitary adapters included one 2 in Tri-Clamp/female cam fitting, two 2 in Tri-Clamp/male cam fittings, one 2.5 in Tri-Clamp fitting, three 2 in Tri-Clamp fittings, one DIN65 liner/nut to 2.5 in Tri-Clamp, one 2.5-to-2 in reducer, and 2 in MPT cam fittings including a polypropylene male adapter. Port details distinguish inlet 201.1, outlet 222.2, freshwater 301/375.1/409.1 and 460A BSP-to-NPT interface. Purchase quantities are counted once even when repeated in task instructions.

  • Feed-system design basis

Specified a 2–5 psi positive feed requirement for the skid. Fermenter racking valves were approximately 60 in above grade, maximum working liquid level approximately 220 in, and a common 3 in manifold ran approximately 12 in above grade. The planned feed arrangement used one fermenter at a time with the other valves isolated.

  • Remaining integration and responsibility

Assigned plant scope for hoses/hardware, PVC fermenter-manifold piping and a valved feed connection, with plant labor or a vendor funded by the plant. Engineering scope included the CIP tank and three-way valve bank, infeed/outlet connections, product line to the filter-tank top, compressed-air filters, freshwater filters and a manifold with pressure/flow gauges. Waste routing remained unresolved: liquid-to-drain was the initial plan; a positive-displacement pump to an outdoor dumpster was an alternative if needed.

  • Electrical sizing question

Raised a 240% supply-demand question against an asserted typical 130% maximum and asked how the VFD-driven centrifuge motor would behave during ramp-up. These values remained a sizing query and were not adopted as a verified electrical requirement.

  • Electrical readiness and interfaces

Developed the trial electrical scope before supplier commitment, using an early 100 A 460 V local-supply concept and later 125 A 480 V readiness basis. Reviewed feeder, subpanel, centrifuge and pump-control circuits, stainless mounting hardware, conduit and contractor power-termination responsibilities. Earlier conflicting voltage/panel-size wording was superseded instead of being used as an installation specification.

Project ownership and delivery context

Owned the full project lifecycle: capital planning and prioritization, need definition, feasibility and scope development, engineering and AFE justification, procurement and vendor coordination, construction sequencing and field oversight, commissioning, turnover, and post-startup support. Connected operating requirements with technical scope, funding decisions, execution readiness, and the needs of operations and maintenance.

Compared supplier documentation, automation, serviceability and performance, then translated evaluation findings into specifications and procurement planning. Flow measurement, batch control and hard-piped transfer arrangements connected separation performance with repeatable production and cleaning practices.
