Why the Work Mattered

Purpose and Operating Need

The issue was not a simple gutter repair. Water had washed out an 85 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft void beneath the slab and continued down a 25-ft, 50 percent grade, requiring capture, conveyance, screening, energy dissipation, and outlet control.

Engineering scope and design basis

Designed protection for the 132-ft tank slab, erosion-risk reduction, stabilization of washed-out subgrade, high-velocity runoff control, and a maintainable discharge path toward the wetlands.

Developed the stormwater-control and slab-protection design, using 545 GPM design flow, 132-ft tank slab, 85 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft void, 135-ft reinforced channel, five-step / 55-ft weir, and 10 ft x 15 ft x 2 ft outlet basin, by coordinating roof-drainage replacement, subgrade stabilization, channeling, debris screens, step-down weirs, and outlet energy dissipation.

545 GPM; 4,375 cu ft/hr; 132-ft slab; 85 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft void; 135-ft channel; 25-ft elevation drop; five 5-ft weir drops; 10 ft x 15 ft x 2 ft basin.

Connected operating requirements with technical scope, funding decisions, execution readiness, and the needs of operations and maintenance.

Developed the reinforced channel, debris screens, five-step weir, outlet basin and stabilization scope. Curbing, grading, landscaping and wastewater-collection interfaces were coordinated with the work. The system reduced sediment carry by more than 90 percent while providing a maintainable runoff path.
